Client: Amec Foster Wheeler
Project: Improved project cost estimation at the bidding stages of a contract

Amec Foster Wheeler plc is a British multinational consultancy, engineering and project management company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It is focused on the oil and gas, minerals and metals, clean energy, environment and infrastructure markets and has offices in over 50 countries worldwide.

The customer was in the process of bidding for the construction of a new energy infrastructure project with an estimated value of £50million.

Digital Engineering was commissioned by AMEC to deliver a preliminary weather analysis. This consisted of project-specific weather information which was used by the client to inform their initial costing of the construction works in general, with particular focus on foundation costs.

Our analysis confirmed AMEC’s initial estimates of the weather impacts on the sizing and design of foundations and this helped to improve decision-making throughout the bidding process.

AMEC’s efforts to improve their bidding assumptions for costing were recognised by their customer as a very innovative initiative, delivering a measurable value to the project.
