Project: Turbine micro-siting to optimise cost of energy production

Willow Energy is a UK-based developer of wind energy projects specializing in mid-scale projects (from 80kW to 2.0MW). They commissioned Digital Engineering to produce a Wind Feasibility Report to identify the best location for the turbine using micro-siting maps to increase the estimated yield of the project.

We identified an optimum wind speed that was 0.4 metres per second higher than the location initially chosen for siting the turbine. This increased the estimated yield by £35k per year.

Because the Feed-in Tariff decreases each year for new applications, micro-siting turbines in this way means that a turbine can be located to maximise the available wind-speed for optimum energy yield and increased return on investment.
