Happy Global Wind Day
Today is Global Wind Day. Coordinated by WindEurope and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) in conjunction with the various national associations, the aim is to introduce the general public to wind energy through a series of events all over the world, from kite festivals and wind farm open days to seminars with experts and leading industry figures, giving companies the opportunity to showcase their technologies and for people around the world to learn about the power of the wind.
“With over 500GW installed worldwide, wind power has become the leading source of new power generation in Europe and in many countries around the world. Today, wind energy is a mature and mainstream technology and one of the fastest growing industrial sectors in the world with over $100 billion invested in 2015”. (https://globalwindday.org/about/ )
GWEC Secretary General Steve Sawyer said “We are on the road to a sustainable energy future. Wind and other renewables are already winning on the economics alone, but we need it happen faster if we are to have a reasonable chance of meeting the Paris climate targets”.
We at Digital Engineering are honoured to have been involved in the installation of over 50MW here in the UK as well as sites in the US, Turkey, Argentina and the Caribbean. Our in house forecast for today predicts that the UK’s wind farms will produce over 160GWh today, enough to power the equivalent of over 15 million homes.
